IML – when the label needs to be attached forever
Posted 2021-06-08Some packaging needs to have a label that is attached forever. With this in mind Emballator in Mellerud started to offer products with IML.
IML means In Mould Label and is a technique where the label is produced together with the packaging and merged into the plastics. The result is a label that is mounted in the packaging forever.
“We work with a lot of packaging’s for chemicals and in that segment it’s really important that the label is connected to the product for a long time. It’s a safety risk that might do that important information is removed from the packaging”, says Markus Porath, Product and Development Manager at Emballator Mellerud Plast.
IML is also a demand when it comes to dangerous goods. It’s not allowed to be transported if the packaging is missing a label. But there are more benefits with the printing solution.
“Since the IML is printed in the same sheet as the packaging the product is 100 percent recyclable. A label in paper or in another material makes the recycling process difficult.”
Products as liquid detergent, degreaser or soap are products that can benefit from an IML packaging.
“When it comes to products that have important safety information that can’t loosen or break IML is the best solution”, says Markus.
