Investment at Emballator Innovation Center for sustainable packaging development
Posted 2021-06-15
During 2020 Emballator launched their Innovation Center for packaging solutions, located in Ljungby, Sweden. A new innovation facility is now being built next to the premises of Emballator Lagan Plast, the new facilities will have areas for development, conference rooms and offices.
“We can already see that our premises are not enough for our ambition level and we have now taken the first step towards a new building of 760 square meter. In our new facilities we will be able to develop and test the materials and packaging solutions of the future. This investment is strategically important for us to be able to help our customers to reach their sustainability goals”, says Ulf Nicklasson, CEO Emballator Plastics & Innovations AB.
Machine equipment and multi-layer pilot lines to be able to produce smaller series of product types that the companies within Emballator Plastics & Innovations produces today, will be one part of the facilities. The building will also create possibilities to invest in other equipment that is adjusted for future material and processes.
“Since we are striving to decrease the need of fossil-based material this larger and customized premises will give us the conditions needed to test and evaluate new material and techniques. This is a great step for us in our vision to be an established competence center where customers, suppliers and partners turn to for sustainable packaging development”, says Mats Jeppsson, Innovation Manager and responsible for Emballator Innovation Center.
One part of the work at Emballator Innovation Center is making sure that the packaging helps to reduce waste of the product content. The new facilities will therefore be crucial to be able to test, measure and have a close dialogue with customers about choice of packaging material.
“The barrier properties are getting more and more important in the future. They should protect the goods they are intended for and at the same time not affect the recycling process in a negative way, neither in quality nor the environment. Our new facility helps us to test, analyze and improve barriers”, explains Mats Jeppsson.
For Emballator Lagan Plast the new building means that the collaboration between the company and Innovation Center is strengthened, at the same time as the development possibilities are increased for employees at the company.
“This will give us increased possibilities to make in-depth tests and controls in our daily life. This will also be a great development opportunity for our R&D department that can grow in the group. Together we will develop our competence and that’s extremely positive”, says Håkan Larsson, CEO at Emballator Lagan Plast.
The plan is that the new facilities will be ready in December 2021.
