Emballator Lagan awarded for engagement with youth
Posted 2021-11-23Since 2017 Linnéakademin is handing out Pontonjärspriset. An award that highlights people who in different ways create bridges between academy and business in Kronoberg and Kalmar County. One of this year’s winners are Emballator Lagan and Anton Olsson, Product manager.
The award was founded by Kristina Alsér, former governor in Kronoberg County, and Emballator Lagan and Anton Olsson is given the prize thanks for their job and engagement in the exhibition Jobbcirkus. Jobbcirkus is a tool to guide youth and young adults in coming decisions for high school and working life. The show has been arranged in Ljungby, Sweden, and open for students in Kronoberg County.
“I was really happy and chocked when I got the information that we had won. There’s a lot of people behind this, so it’s not just my work. We’ve been a team that made this and getting this prize shows that we’ve done something good”, says Anton Olsson.
For Anton the work has been important to show youth which jobs and professions that exists at Emballator. And to change the picture that the industry only offers one kind of job.
“It’s important in many ways, of course for Emballator to show the company but also that youth understand that this kind of work exists here. It has been important for me to increase the interest and open doors that has not been there”, says Anton and continues:
“When you say that you work in the industry a lot of youngsters thinks about welding, but there’s a lot of professions for example logistics, product development, design, and many different working areas.”
Working as a Product manager, a lot of focus is on product development and Anton has a great interest in engineering which has made the conversations with students about the Engineering programme easy.
“I believe it’s really important to shift the interest for students who have not been thinking in these paths. They can be important employees for the company in the future. I talk a lot about postponing their career choice, when you are young you don’t know what you want to be, I didn’t neither. And there’s a lot of possibilities when you are done at high school.”
For Emballator it’s important to care about the next generation, one way of showing that is having interns and in different ways supporting youth.
“Anton has made a great job and not hesitated when he got the question about Jobbcirkus. He has really shared his experience from growing up and choosing school and his job at Emballator. He’s an ambassador for Emballator and has really shown both himself and us in the best way”, says Håkan Larsson, CEO Emballator Lagan.
