Increased packaging recycling in Sweden during 2020
Posted 2021-12-28Recycling is increasing in Sweden and in 2020 the amount of packaging that were left for recycling hit a record, this according to FTI (Förpacknings- och Tidningsinsamlingen). The report from FTI also shows that almost a fourth of all packaging is sorted in the wrong way.
Making it easy for the consumer to recycle the packaging in the right way, is one of Emballators focus. Together with customers the company works with for example packaging in mono-material.
“Metal pails and cans in combination with metal lid solutions provide an easy to sort mono-material solution for the end consumer. One advantage with our metal products, except for its infinite recyclability, is the fact that it is easy for a consumer to recognize the material and therefor avoid sorting mistakes”, says Stefan Bergström, CEO at Emballator Metal Group.
According to the report from FTI 35 % of metal packaging and 28 % of plastic packaging is recycled wrong. FTI says that this is because of low knowledge of what the packaging is made of.
“Recycle in the right way is not easy. Many products are made of material that looks like a completely other material, that’s why it’s so important to have a dialogue with brand owners when developing new products. Easy-to-recycle is about creating a visual clarity where a product belongs; plastic should look like plastic, paper like paper and so on. We’re also always in a dialogue with other companies in the complete value chain to make our packaging more circular”, says Mats Jeppsson, Innovation Manager at Emballator Innovation Center.
Emballator will continue to spread knowledge about recycling and make sure that consumers understand how and what to recycle.
