Two experts – one concept: Emballator Mellerud and Emballator Växjö collaborate for optimal customer solutions
Posted 2022-01-25Packaging for hazardous goods is a well-balanced interplay between can and cap. With two experts in each area, Emballator can offer efficient solutions for UN packaging.
UN packaging, ie packaging intended for hazardous goods, requires special expertise.
“You must not only know the contents, but also how the goods are to be handled and transported to be able to do the right thing and live up to the regulations. There are nine different classes for classifying substances. For example, fuels fall under class 3 “flammable liquids”. This group is then divided into three different levels depending on the degree of danger”, says Bo Nilsson R&D Manager at Emballator in Växjö.
Since it is the entire package – both the can and the cap – that is UN-classified, the customer benefits greatly from a complete solution. That is why the special competencies within Emballator – Emballator Växjö, which is the cap specialist, and Emballator Mellerud, which focuses on bottles and cans – often choose to collaborate.
“Together we have the knowledge required to produce the right packaging for the purpose. We validate the function ourselves as a first step before external UN tests that lead to a certificate. With that said, it is mainly Emballator Mellerud who runs the projects – we deliver the right caps in dialogue with them, which is a special competence in itself”, emphasizes Bo Nilsson:
“We focus on testing our caps so that they not only manage to preserve the contents but can also withstand, for example, tough shocks, freezing and high falls. It is all about preventing the content from coming out in nature or in unintentional contact with people at all costs.”
The combination of the two companies’ top competencies is a real winner, states Joakim Johannesson, who is CEO of Emballator Mellerud:
“Our close dialogue with Emballator Växjö means that we can ensure that the whole solution with can, and cap really meets all requirements. You can have a really good and expensive cap or can but if they do not work together, it fails anyway.”
