We welcome Ulf Åström – new CFO at Emballator Mellerud
Posted 2022-05-03What are your first impressions of Emballator?
“My first impressions are that everyone is friendly, professional, and relaxed. When I participated in a morning meeting for the first time here, I noticed that everyone knew what’s happening during the day. Everything was updated and felt professional. Emballator feels like a small company that is becoming a larger group.”
What is your primary role?
“My primary role is being a CFO that is more focused on controlling and production. I should know how the calculations works and be able to understand why it turned out the way it did. I’m more interested in production to understand the numbers and create suggestions on activities to the CEO and management team. I am not only focused on the accounting. I want to understand what is behind the numbers.”
Shortly, can you tell us about your background?
“After a technical education, national service, and a few different jobs I started studying at the University. I read a finance programme that I created from different courses at different Universities in Sweden. The last semester I was in Melbourne and then backpacked in Australia, New Zeeland, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand before I travelled home to Sweden. Since then, I’ve been working at different companies in different roles, for example as Production Controller at Carrier Refrigeration, Duni, CFO at Dana Spicer, and CFO at Volvo Buses, where I for example worked with a restructuring project in Italy.”
How would you describe yourself?
“I’m driven, happy, positive, and nice. I like to find activities that improves the company.”
Our values are important for us, which one or ones do you carry with you in your work?
“All values have their part – customer focus is natural and growth with profitability is important. I also think employees is important, how can I develop the people in my team? Seeing Society as an important part and work closely to that is also important. Innovation and our DNA is also good.”
Finally, what are you doing in your spare time?
“I play tennis once a week. The most fun thing I do in my spare time is to sing in cover band that plays hard rock. We play a mix of music, such as Sweet Child o’ Mine with Guns N’ Roses or Wicked Game with HIM. Of course, my family is most important and there’s always something to do around the house.”
