Climate conscious recycling of waste materials at Emballator Ulricehamn
Posted 2022-11-08Nothing is wasted at Emballator in Ulricehamn. Metal waste from production is recycled into a ”second life” in other products, like engine blocks.
When you produce cylindrical cans there will be metal waste, it is inevitable. But at Emballator in Ulricehamn, nothing goes to waste. Metal waste and scrap are delivered to a recycling company, ensuring that the metal is reused in new products. A possible area of use is engine blocks for trucks and cars, says Ulrica Emanuelsson, Quality & Environmental Manager at Emballator Metal Group in Ulricehamn.
”This kind of metal waste is attractive as it can be used for many applications. It also makes economic sense, not least from an energy perspective. Melting and recycling sheet metal consumes much less energy, compared to making sheet metal from raw materials. It is often said that once recycled kilo saves two kilos of raw material.”
Mostly Emballator in Ulricehamn uses tin-plated sheet metal for its cans, bottoms, and lids. And just because you have a working recycling system, it does not mean that you can rest on your laurels.
“We are constantly working to optimize production and reduce our consumption, firstly by reducing waste.”
