Emballator has extensive experience in packaging for dangerous goods
Posted 2023-12-14Transports of dangerous goods require UN approval and Emballator Metal Group in Ulricehamn has extensive experience in developing and producing packaging with UN approval.
“Actually the secret is not to complicate it, and to make it as simple as possible for the customer,” says technical manager Pär Claesson.
”The regulations came into force in 1990 and we have been working to develop our routines ever since. We therefore have solid competence in the area,” says Pär Claesson, who has also sat as an advisor on MSB’s expert committee for dangerous goods.
Increased security focus
With increasing international transport, UN approval is high on the agenda.
”We see a new awareness among customers, who today often have their own safety advisors who help them ensure that the packaging they use for dangerous goods meet the legislation.”
”The best thing Emballator Metal Group can do for its customers is to ensure that they get a flexible packaging that they can use for as many needs as possible. A package that works for several transport options, for example by road, boat and rail, becomes more efficient in the long run. This is why we analyze the complete span of the customer’s business and give advice based on this – it is just not about to meet the test criteria for an individual content and an individual package.”
Advanced tests
Knowledge of how the material is affected by the content is extremely important for safety. Tightness and durability are tested. Among other things, a drop test is performed on the edge of the bottom and lid as well as a hydraulic pressure test, and an air tightness test. In addition, a stacking test is performed during the certification at NET, Nordisk Emballage Kontroller. All those tests are needed for the packaging to be approved for air transport.
Back to news”Understanding the customer’s real needs and creating smart and efficient solutions is our main means of competition. If a customer mainly uses a package for a density of 1.6 but needs a few packages that can handle 2.0, it is optimal if we can meet that need in one and the same package instead of making special solutions.”
