Emballator top ranked in Hempel sustainability screening
Posted 2023-02-14When Hempel, a leading company within coating solutions with brands as Hempel and Crown, made a procurement screening within sustainability, Emballator was top ranked. A proof on how the paint industry works together to make an impact, means Maria Edqvist Schultz, Head of Sustainability at Emballator.
For Emballator sustainability is based on the Group’s shared ambition of developing packaging solutions for future generations. The goal is that a packaging from Emballator, either if it is made in plastic, tinplate, or aluminium, should be material optimized and recycled when it is no longer needed. Sustainability is given in all the companies within Emballator and permeates the whole business.
“I think this ranking from one of our important partners is a proof of how important our sustainability focus is. From the health and safety of employees, to care for the environment and climate, and new product innovations”, says Maria Edqvist Schultz, Head of Sustainability at Emballator.
Hempel started the Procurement Sustainability Screening initiative in 2021 with the purpose of fostering positive impacts in its supply chains. In 2022, the time had come to the steel packaging category, and Emballator was evaluated along with other strategic suppliers. The assessment includes sustainability strategy, climate and emissions, energy and waste, as well as transport and sustainable procurement. Emballator and Hempel have had a close partnership for over 30 years.
“For us this was a common evaluation of our business in Sweden, Finland, and UK, and it feels fun to receive this ranking. It is also a proof on how the paint industry works together to make an impact on the environment”, says Maria.
Emballator was ranked number 4 out of 35 suppliers within the Steel Packaging category.
“By taking the time to understand where our suppliers stand on sustainability, but also provide feedback to these suppliers, we aim to develop good visibility on, as well as reward, sustainability performance across our supply chain.” says Dagny Nome, Hempel’s Procurement Sustainability Manager.
