New criteria for Nordic Swan Ecolabel of paints and varnishes
Posted 2024-01-24The Nordic Ecolabelling organisation, has updated its criteria for the Nordic Swan certification of paints and varnishes, effective until September 2028. Emballator has played an advisory role in this process, aiming to support our customers in making more sustainable packaging choices.
In the latest edition of the criteria, the requirements for plastic packaging have been expanded to include the entire package, including the lid and handle, rather than just the container itself. To meet the criteria, a minimum of 30% of the total plastic packaging must consist of recycled material. For metal packaging, there are no specific limitations (except for aluminium, which is not allowed), as it is a material that can be recycled multiple times and is currently an integral part of new metal production. Additionally, the metal can be recovered from the ash during incineration.
At Emballator we offer a wide range of packaging solutions in both plastic and metal, helping our customers meet the requirements for Nordic Swan Ecolabel. We are committed to collaborating with our current and future customers to select packaging that is both sustainable and meets the technical requirements for the product to be filled.
According to Maria Edqvist Schultz, Head of Sustainability at Emballator, “Collaboration between packaging manufacturers, interest organizations, and our customers is crucial for a swift transition to more sustainable packaging choices.”
Emballator actively engages with numerous interest organizations and bodies that promote environmentally friendly packaging solutions, aligning with our commitment to creating packaging solutions for future generations.
